Understanding the Merrivexa Interface

A guide to terminology, navigation, and first use

Merrivexa Pty Ltd — October 2024

Purpose of this guide

This page is intended for users who are considering requesting access to the Merrivexa system or who have recently been granted access and would like a clearer understanding of how the interface is structured. It explains the terminology used throughout the platform, describes how navigation is intended to work, and outlines what new users can expect during their first sessions with the system.

This is not a substitute for direct support. If you have a specific question that is not addressed here, you are welcome to contact the team at [email protected].

Key terminology

The Merrivexa interface uses a consistent set of terms throughout. Understanding these terms before you begin navigating the system will help you find what you need more efficiently.

  • Category: A defined section of the system that groups information entries sharing a common type or theme. Categories are the primary navigation unit in Merrivexa.
  • Entry: A single item of information within a category. Each entry is presented in a consistent format, with a set of attributes that describe its content.
  • Attribute: A property associated with an entry, such as a date, identifier, type label, or descriptive field. Attributes are what you can use to filter and compare entries.
  • Classification: The process by which the system assigns an entry to one or more categories based on its attributes. This process is handled automatically by the system.
  • Filter: A refinement tool that narrows the entries visible within a category based on a specific attribute value. Multiple filters can often be applied simultaneously.
  • Summary view: A display mode that shows the key attributes of multiple entries at once, allowing you to scan a category quickly.
  • Detail view: A display mode that expands a single entry to show all of its available attributes in full.
  • Enquiry: A message submitted through the platform's contact form. Enquiries are reviewed by the support team and may relate to access requests, questions, or support needs.

How navigation is organised

The Merrivexa interface is organised around a category tree — a hierarchical structure of defined sections that you navigate to locate information. At the top level, you will see the main categories available to you. Within each main category, there may be subcategories that group entries more specifically.

Navigation is primarily hierarchical rather than search-driven, although a search function may be available within certain views. The recommended approach for new users is to begin by exploring the top-level categories to understand the overall structure before drilling down into subcategories.

The breadcrumb trail displayed at the top of each view shows your current position in the category hierarchy. You can use it to navigate back to any previous level without losing your current filters.

What to expect on first use

New users typically encounter a system that contains information in varying states of completeness across different categories. Some categories may be well populated with detailed entries; others may contain fewer entries or entries with incomplete attribute sets. This variation is normal and reflects the scope of information that has been classified and entered into the system at the time of access.

It is not necessary to review every entry in every category. The system is designed to support targeted review — that is, navigating to the specific category relevant to your needs and using filters to refine the visible set. This approach is more efficient than attempting a comprehensive browse of the entire system.

If you find that the system does not contain the category or type of information you were expecting, we recommend contacting the support team to clarify whether that information is available in a different section or is currently outside the scope of the platform.

Reporting issues and providing feedback

If you encounter an issue with how information is displayed, a category that appears to be missing entries it should contain, or a technical problem affecting your use of the interface, please use the Enquire page to notify the support team.

Feedback about the interface and information structure is welcome. The team reviews all enquiries and uses user feedback to improve the classification and navigation experience over time. We cannot guarantee that every suggestion will be implemented, but all feedback is read.
